Paradip, April 29: Police have rescued a minor tribal girl from the roof of a residential quarter here.

The girl was found with her legs and hands tied.

The victim worked as a domestic help, the police said. They said that another domestic help staying nearby had tortured the girl with the help of a male accomplice. Both the helps had become friends but their relation had worsened recently.

The occupants of the residential quarter were not at home when the incident took place. The 15-year-old victim was unconscious when the police found her. She was rushed to Biju Memorial Hospital and is out of danger.

Jagatsinghpur superintendent of police Satyabrata Bhoi said: “The accused duo has been identified. The victim had picked up quarrel with the woman, who stayed close by, over the theft of a cell phone. When the victim accused the maid of stealing the mobile phone, she was infuriated and planned to settle scores.”

Taking advantage of the house-owners’ absence, the duo made their way to the victim’s house and made her to consume a toxic liquid. Later, they pulled her to the roof of the house after tying her hands and feet with nylon ropes. They dumped her at the corner of the roof and left. Both the accused are on the run.
