Bhubaneswar: The smart city implementing agency will take part in an investors' meet organised by Niti Aayog in New Delhi on Thursday to lure investors for various integrated multi-utility projects in the proposed town centre district.

The projects include components such as 24X7 water and energy supply, recycled water supply, storm water drainage channels, solid waste management, underground cabling, smart energy metre, road and pavement works and their improvement, plantations, street furnishing and smart street lighting.

Sources said the event will be a joint initiative of Niti Aayog, the state government and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited. The integrated multi-utility project was part of Bhubaneswar's Smart City Proposal with the 3-I Project (Integrated-Infrastructure-Improvement) that is estimated to cost around Rs 370 crore.

An official said the state government and the Niti Aayog had decided to take up the projects in public-private-partnership mode. A detailed project report and feasibility report have already been prepared for projects such as the underground cabling of power supply lines, storm water drain, 24X7 power and water supply.

"The infrastructure-based public services will be handed over to a single utility operator. The operator will undertake a one time capex or capital expenditure to redevelop infrastructure, operate and maintain the services and recover operations and maintenance payments from the users," said an official of the smart city.

"The Smart City Mission is in its second year and we have made significant progress, which is evident from our infrastructure work. However, we need more investment to continue with our good work. The state and central government funds are already there - private sector investment will boost the job," said the official.

One of the important components of the utility project would be to set up Let's Recycle Centres for better solid waste management. These centres would enable waste collection, segregation and reuse for better garbage collection, treatment, recycling and management.

The proposed town centre district will involve area-based development according to the smart city proposal.
