Bhubaneswar: The state government has fixed May 31 as the deadline for construction of two additional galleries at the hockey stadium in Kalinga Sports Complex which will host the Men's World Cup in November.
Chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Tuesday reviewed the progress of works in the third executive committee meeting of the event held in the secretariat conference hall.
While May 31 has been fixed as the deadline for construction of the north and south galleries, March 31 has been fixed as the deadline for construction of the swimming pool. With construction of the two additional galleries, the total capacity of the stadium will be increased to 16,000 from the existing 9,000.
Earlier, the sports department had decided to pull down the swimming pool complex lying adjacent to the hockey stadium to pave away the construction of the additional galleries. Padhi directed the works department to complete construction and widening of internal roads, drain, food plaza and other infrastructures by May.
The tourism department said a list of 412 hotels in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri had been prepared to accommodate players and visitors for the 16-nation world cup between November 28 and December 16.
"Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation has set up an engineering unit to execute the projects. Widening of roads in the sports complex will start shortly, and the trees affected by road widening will be translocated," said sports secretary Vishal Dev.
