Berhampur, Aug. 7: A man was arrested today for allegedly killing his wife and two-year-old daughter.
Kandha Mahakuda, 30, from Bhagabanpur village in Ganjam district had set the bodies in their house on fire and fled the spot.
It is suspected that Mahakuda was in love with another woman and frequently quarrelled with his wife.Inspector in charge of Sorada police station Bijay Kumar Hybru said Mahakuda first killed wife Sunita Gouda and then his daughter Smruti with a sharp weapon and then set them on fire by pouring kerosene.
The villagers came to know about the incident after smoke and a foul odour came from the house. They entered to look for Mahakuda, who was missing. The villagers were able to nab him at Asurabandha, about two kilometres from the village and handed over him to police, Hybru said. Police have seized two charred bodies and a kerosene jar from the house.
Mahakuda married Sunita four years ago after they fell in love. But he fell in love with another woman, a villager said.
