Jajpur: A 40-year-old man of Tikarasahi died after he was kicked by a murder convict near Sankharidiha village of the district on Sunday night.
Police on Monday arrested the accused, identified as Giri Mandal of Dharmasala village. Mandal was recently released from jail after serving a jail term of 12 years on charges of killing his wife.
Family members of the deceased, Sanatan Samal, lodged a police complaint against Mandal on Sunday night. Sanatan's father said his son went to Sankharidiha to meet Mandal on Sunday night and returned home in a critical condition.
"Mandal who was waiting near the Hanuman temple at Sankharidiha picked up a quarrel with my son over a petty issue. In a fit of rage, Mandal kicked my son on his stomach, following which he died," said Basanta Samal.
Sanatan reached home the same night and vomited blood. He was taken to community health centre at Dharmasala, where doctors declared him received dead. Sanatan's family members and local people staged a roadblock on the NH-16 near Sankharidiha by placing the body on the road.
