Man held for fraud
Cuttack: Police arrested a 24-year-old youth, who had fraudulently withdrawn Rs 1.7 lakh from different ATMs in Cuttack, from Loni in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania said: “Loni resident Gafur Malik had made ten withdrawals amounting to Rs 1.7 lakh in January and February from two State Bank of India ATMs of at Mani Sahu Chak and Buxi Bazar, one Allahabad Bank ATM at Cantonment Rosd and a Canara Bank ATM at Jhola Sahi. But the transactions were not recorded in any of the bank records.” Cops busted the fraud after investigating Writer Safeguard, an ATM replenishment agency’s complaint about physical shortage of cash in few of the ATMs they manage in Cuttack.
Athletics meet
Bhubaneswar: The 22nd Asian Athletics Championship will be held at Kalinga Stadium here in July after Ranchi pulled out from hosting the international event. A team of officials from the Athletics Federation of India on Sunday inspected the stadium facilities and expressed satisfaction over the infrastructure available at the sports complex.
Ponzi scam
Bhubaneswar: The Justice Madan Mohan Das Commission, formed to look into the Ponzi scam in the state, served notices to over 50 deposit collection firms. The commission issued the notices to the firms, including Basundhara Green Power, Alpine Fincorp, Micro Leasing & Funding, Milan & Milan International, allegedly involved in cheating small investors, after verifying 1,14,384 affidavits that were filed between September 2 and 12, 2013 in the third phase.
