Kendrapara, June 15: Amar Behera (35) from Pareswarpur village under Mahakalpada police jurisdiction has accused his wife of subjecting him to physical and mental torture. He has sought intervention of the state commission for women and the local police.

According to the complaint lodged in this connection, Behera, a low-paid employee in a Bhubaneswar-based private company, was being ill-treated by his wife for the low salary. The complaint stated that his wife was constantly harassing his parents as Behera stayed mostly outdoors because of preoccupation in job. She had allegedly threatened to slap false dowry related cases against him and his parents.

Kendrapara SP Narasingha Bhol said: “The matter is being inquired into to ascertain veracity of the allegations leveled against the woman.”

In another typical incident, a young girl has staged dharna in front of her would-be in-laws’ house in Tirtol. The girl is insistent on marrying her lover. “The incident occurred at Paikrapur village under the Tirtol police station jurisdiction. A case has been registered in this connection. We have requested the local gram panchayat body to prevail upon the girl to withdraw from dharna,” said Debabrata Kar, inspector of Tirtol police station.
