Koraput: The historic Jagannath Sagar situated at Jeypore is likely to get a new look.
Secretary housing and urban development department G. Mathi Vathanan had sent the department's special consultant, Bibhas Mohapatra, to Jeypore on Friday to inspect the present condition of the lake and to prepare a detail project report for its renovation. "The lake is polluted due to the inflow of drain water and around 50 per cent of the water body is filled with weed. The housing and urban development department official made a thorough inspection of the lake and would submit the project report for necessary action," said Koraput collector Anupam Saha.
The housing department official along with district officials made an all-round inspection and held discussions with the officials of minor irrigation (department of water resources) as the lake was under their jurisdiction.
Installation of three water treatment plants at the entry points of polluted drain water to the lake, construction of boundary wall, weeding and cleaning of mud of the lake and beautification of the lake were the issues that were discussed.
"Once the project report is ready, the renovation work will start. We hope that in next 10 months the lake will get a new look," said sub-collector of Jeypore Chakravarthy Singh Rathore.
