Slum kids demand space to play sports

Parents' event

Apeejay School, Bhubaneswar, organised a reflective "Parent Orientation Programme" on March 18 to guide the parents through the finer nuances of parenting. The interactive orientation event came as parents continue to run a relentless marathon to succeed on a daily basis. The parents were given information related to uniforms, bus routes and curriculum among others.

Foundation day

ODM Public School, Bhubaneswar, observed its 29th foundation day recently with pomp. Commissioner of Income Tax, Bhubaneswar, Sarat Kumar Das was chief guest of the occasion. The school felicitated student achievers with certificates and citations while outstanding teachers were recognised for their contributions to education. The celebration was interspersed with cultural programmes by the students and the teachers of the school.

Social service

DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, students took part in a three-day social service camp in Paradip. Students of classes VIII and IX conducted various activities in the town, created awareness among the public on issues such as female foeticide, child marriage, sanitation and hygiene, and environment protection. The students also visited places of importance during their stay.

Launch party

Little Havard Pre School, a new educational start-up by group of young educators, conducted its launch in Bhubaneswar with a two-day kids' carnival.

School founder Anuradha Agarwal inaugurated the facility in the presence of children and their parents who took part in activities such as arts and crafts station, storytelling sessions, dart ball painting, talent show and more.

Food partner

Vikash Residential School has partnered with Sodexo to provide quality and nutritious food. Sodexo organised an inaugural ceremony with around 700 parents, teachers and students enjoying a delicious and rich menu. The new venture is expected to bring a qualitative change in hostel life and contribute to academic excellence.

Right to play

Students of different slums on Wednesday expressed their views on "right to play" and said the lack of open spaces and playgrounds in the city they were depriving them from playing outdoor games. They urged the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to provide space for them to play at a workshop organised by voluntary organisation Centre for Child and Women Development in collaboration with National Foundation for India.

Cancer camp

The alumni association of Unit-IX Boys' High School organised a cancer awareness camp recently. Cancer specialists talked on the disease and its treatment with more than 250 alumni and teachers taking part.

Chess whiz

Yashaswini Sarangi of DPS, Kalinga, won the Radha Raman Panigrahi Memorial School Chess Championship by six points. Saswat Sahoo of St Joseph's High School and Subham Joyti Sahoo of BJEM School finished second and third respectively. Rupa Narayan Das, joint secretary, finance department, gave away the prizes as chief guest.
