Bhubaneswar, Oct. 26: The Centre for Advanced Communication, IIT-Kharagpur, is set to complete setting up language and communication laboratories in various colleges in the state by 2015-16. Last year, the higher education department had signed an MoU with the premier institute for setting up the labs in government and private colleges.
The institution has already developed an Interactive Software Integrated Learning System (ISILS), an updated electronic tool for language and communication skill development. “Each lab will have a computer for each student, projector screens and other demonstration equipment,” said an official. The labs will be set up in 18 colleges, including six private institutes.
The government colleges include, NC Autonomous College, Jajpur, MPC Autonomous College, Baripada, Angul Government Autonomous College, Angul, Dhenkanal Autonomous College, Dhenkanal Govt Women’s College, Sambalpur, KKS Women’s College, Baleswar, Govt Women’s College, Keonjhar, Sushilabati Govt Women’s College, Rourkela, Khallikote Autonomous College, Brahmapur, Bhadrak Autonomous College, Bhadrak, and Bhawanipatna Autonomous College.
The six private colleges are Baba Saheb Ambedkar College, Khajuriapada, DAV Autonomous College, Titlagarh, City College, Brahmapur, Gopalpur Degree College, SR College, Baliapal and UN Autonomous College of Science and Technology. Emphasis will be laid on developing group discussion skills, body language and communication skills of the students in these labs so that they are ready for any job by the time they leave college. IIT-Kharagpur has been asked to prepare project estimate for 24-seater and 32-seater labs. The total cost for English language labs is Rs 2 crore.
