Sambalpur, July 28: Six youths, who were arrested on charges of killing a diploma student, continue to languish behind bars even four days after the “murdered” youth came back alive.
Deogarh police had arrested six youths on charges of murdering Dibyashankar Gartia. However, Dibyashankar, who was believed to have been murdered, came back last Thursday.
But the six youths, who were arrested on charges of murdering him, are yet to be released.
The six youths — Santosh Jena, Satya Baria, Alok Behera, Rabindra Swain, Harihar Naik and Sudhir Baria — were friends of Dibyashankar.
Dibyashankar, who hails from Bijaya Nagar within the limits of Deogarh police station in Deogarh district, had organised a feast with his friends at the village on July 8.
However, he did not return home after the feast on that day, following which his father Jashodhar lodged a missing complaint at the Deogarh police station on July 12.
On July 16, the police spotted an unidentified body in the Laimura police outpost area of Deogarh.
Jashodhar identified the decomposed body as that of his son’s and subsequently lodged a case of murder.
The police arrested the six acting on the basis of his complaint on July 19.
However, on July 25, Dibyashankar, came back home alive. He had made a call to his father on the previous day and the latter immediately informed the police that his son was alive and coming back home.
Following the information, the police picked up Dibyashankar from Dharmsala Chhak within the limits of Reamal police station on July 25.
Deogarh police superintendent Satyajit Naik said: “We have already submitted the statement of Jashodhar in the court to facilitate release of the six youths. We have also prayed the court to record the statement of the youth who was earlier believed to have been murdered.”
