Bhubaneswar, May 27: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) is on a placement high. Daelim, a global leader in engineering and construction, has offered the highest annual salary of Rs 23.04 lakh to BTech (Civil) student Bitan Ghosh.

Another student of KIIT University’s School of Engineering has been offered an annual package of Rs 12 lakh. However, the average package in this year’s placement has been Rs 4.2 lakh. The graduates are in celebration mode as they had more jobs to choose from and higher salary package than that offered in previous years.

University authorities claimed that 90 per cent of the 2,164 students who had passed this year from six KIIT schools were placed with premier companies and other leading organisations.

This year, 197 companies and organisations had participated in the campus placement process in six KIIT schools – Schools of Engineering, School of Computer Application, School of Rural Management, School of Biotechnology, School of Management and School of Law. A KIIT official said that there was tremendous response from recruiters ever since the placement season started.

He said that Schools of Engineering, which accounts for 78 per cent of the total registered students of KIIT University, recorded 93 per cent placement. School of Rural Management and School of Biotechnology achieved cent per cent and 83 per cent placement, respectively. Similarly, School of Management and School of Law registered 92 per cent and 68 per cent placement, respectively.

School of Computer Application has achieved 51 per cent placement.

However, many students had opted out of the placement process to join reputed national and international institutions for higher studies. Last year, more than 300 students of Schools of Engineering had been academically placed. Students were successful in GATE, CAT and other competitive examinations and took admission in IIMs and other reputed institutions.

Like in the past, Tata Consultancy Services had doled out a maximum of 523 job offers for Schools of Engineering graduates. Other regular visitors such as Wipro, Infosys, Capgemini and UST Global offered more than 50 jobs each. There was an encouraging participation by core companies such Tata Steel, Shapoorji Pallonji, Jindal Steel, Tayo Rolls and Tata Power among others.
