The rare copy of a newspaper edition dated January 31, 1948, the day after Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated, was sold at Rs 12,000 at the ongoing Rajdhani Book Fair on Exhibition Ground here. The Anandabazar Patrika copy, along with two other copies of an English newspaper published in 1939 and 1947, were sold at the kiosk of the Calcutta-based East Bengal Book Agency at a similar price. Apart from attracting bibliophiles, the fair has also become a hub for antique item collectors who are seen buying books that are no longer available in the market. The 15th edition of the annual fair has become a major activity centre, witnessing an average daily footfall of around 40,000. Around 600 kiosks have been set up, including those of publication houses from 10 states across the country. The interactive sessions between writers and readers is also attended by many book lovers.
