Bhubaneswar, July 27: Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) chief Naveen Jindal today said the four million tonne per annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant at Angul, which was commissioned earlier this year, had doubled its production this month compared to last month.

"The plant is gradually stabilising. The production that was 50,000 to 60,000 tonne last month has doubled to 1 lakh tonne. Next month, the production would reach 1.5 lakh tonne," he said after meeting chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

Naveen had dedicated the integrated steel plant to the nation on May 27. The company had commissioned a two million tonne steel plant in 2015. With the inauguration of the 4 MTPA plant, the total capacity of the plant went up to 6 MTPA.

Replying to reporters, Jindal said: "We don't have any issues with the state government. All the plants are running well."

The JSPL chief said the plant was sourcing iron ore from mines in the state and added that availability was not a problem.

Jindal, however, said the company had to import coal to run the plant. The supply of coal from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited was not sufficient. "If we get more coal from MCL, we will reduce the quantum of import," he said.

'Service' to guru

Three students of Amantpur Project Upper Primary School in Angul were captured on video washing their teacher's scooter. Two girl students were engaged in the job, who were helped by a boy prior to the school assembly. When asked about it, the teacher, Sanjukta Majhi, attempted to hush up the act as a service to guru by the students. No action has been taken against Majhi yet.
