Bhubaneswar, June 15: A girl allegedly smashed her boyfriend's head with a stone at Bandhapalli village in Sundargarh police limits on June 4 after she found out that the youth with whom she had an affair was getting married to someone else.
The girl was arrested today and sent to judicial custody.
Angered that the marriage of the victim Sanjeeb Dandsena was fixed for June 18, the accused Kuni Barleia had coaxed him to meet her in a forest, police said. The two were distant relatives.
A police official said: "The hands of the boy were found tied behind his back with his belt and legs were tied with Kuni's dupatta. The girl had banged his head with a stone leading to his death." The cops said Kuni and Sanjeeb, both in their 20s, were in relationship for the past 18 months.
Last month, Kuni learnt from Sanjeeb's parents that the boy was getting married to another girl on June 18. Sanjeeb had started maintaining a distance from Kuni. This angered her and she decided to kill him, the police said.
On June 4, the police found the body in the jungles of Kenabhedra. During investigation, inspector in-charge of Sundargarh police station Thakurdas Murmu said the duo were last spotted having soft drinks at a shop on June 4.
Sundargarh SP Nikhil Kanodia said: "Circumstantial evidence suggests her involvement in the crime."
Dhenkanal rape
Four persons, including the nephew-in-law of the 47-year-old victim, were arrested for allegedly raping and killing her at Balikuma in Kankadahada police limits in Dhenkanal district, 160km away from here. The body of the widow was found with the handle of a griddle inside her private parts last night. Police said past enmity was the motive behind the killing.
The accused are Hari Patra, 32, nephew-in-law of the victim, Ananda Patra, 25, Raghu Lohar, 30, and Sudarshan Lohar, 28. Hari, who had married the minor niece of the deceased, was said to be the mastermind behind the murder. The deceased had opposed the marriage of her niece with Hari. The police said Hari and his wife did not have good relationship and he doubted his wife's character.
Two weeks ago, he had driven her out of his house. The deceased then decided to marry her niece off to someone else and that had angered Hari, said a police official.
"On the night of the crime, Hari and Raghu entered the victim's house and raped the widow. When she started shouting for help they inserted the handle of a roti maker into her private parts, leading to her death," said Dhenkanal SP Basanta Kumar Panigrahi.
