Bhubaneswar, May 28: After a washout game against Baleswar Baghas on Thursday, Bhubaneswar Jaguars faced Cooperative Kings Dhenkanal at the Railway Stadium here today.
Put in to bat after Dhenkanal skipper Shiv Sunder Das won the toss and elected to bowl first, Bhubaneswar Jaguars scored 137 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Paresh Patel’s run out in a terrible mix-up with Bikash Pati was the worst part of the latter’s scintillating knock off 66 runs off 45 deliveries.
Patel, who had scored two half centuries in the first two games, was sent back to pavilion for just 10 runs. Pati and Priyabrat Pradhan steadied the innings with a 45-run stand. But after Pati’s dismissal, the middle-order collapsed as the batsmen virtually threw away their wickets. Dhenkanal’s seasoned spinner Jagannath Das took 4 wickets for 37 runs.
Three other matches were played at Cuttack, Angul and Sambalpur today. In the encounter between Baleswar Baghas and Kashvi Power Rangers (Keonjhar) at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, the Baghas posted a mammoth score of 163 runs for the loss of four wickets at the end of 20 overs. Batsmen Govind Poddar smashed 56 runs and Abhinash Rout scored 44 runs.
Berhampur Bhanja Veers met Western Samurai (Rourkela) at the VSS Stadium in Sambalpur. After winning the toss, the Samurais opted to bat first and scored 131 runs by losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Girija Rout scored 51 runs from 53 balls. The second highest scorer was Nataraj Behera who got 49 runs off 44 balls. Lagnajit Samal of Berhampur claimed three wickets by conceding 16 runs in 4 overs.
At the Kadam Padia in Angul, Angul Tuskers were pitted against Puri Emperors. However, the decision to bat first backfired for the Tuskers as they were bundled up for 113 runs in 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets.
The results for Thursday’s match are: Katak Barabati Tigers (Cuttack) ensured their third successive victory by defeating Cooperative Kings Dhenkanal by seven wickets; Angul Tuskers beat Berhampur Bhanja Veers by six wickets at their home ground; JSP Sparks (Jagatsinghpur) trounced Western Samurai, the Rourkela team, by 33 runs.
