Bhubaneswar: Police commissioner Satyajit Mohanty on Saturday reconstituted the Quick Action Team and posted Suvendu Sahoo, a sub-inspector of police as its head.

The team functions under direct supervision of the commissioner. Assistant sub-inspector of police Ramakanta Pradhan has also been posted in the team. The police said around a dozen other police personnel in the ranks of constables would join the team.

Mohanty had dissolved the Quick Action Team on August 16 after the unit in-charge, Deepak Lenka, was suspended over allegations of misappropriation of seized narcotics.

"Police are engaged in various functions, including VVIP duty, law and order and detection of cases for which they don't get sufficient time to detect organised crimes. The Quick Action Team gathers intelligence on organised crime and hand over the accused to the police stations concerned," said a police officer.
