Bhubaneswar, Sept. 1: The development authority has added a fourth 'T' to chief minister Naveen Patnaik's '3T' formula for good governance.
Alongside teamwork, transparency and technology, it will now stress on transformation to provide better services to residents of the state capital.
Speaking during the 35th foundation day ceremony of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority today, housing and urban development minister Niranjan Pujari called upon officials to concentrate on effective transformation of the state capital to a liveable, child and eco-friendly city.
'The 3Ts of teamwork, transparency and technology - the commitment of our chief minister - were already in use. In line with the above, the development authority should add the fourth T - transformation - to its book as it has already proved its worth by framing the country's No. 1 smart city proposal,' Pujari said.
Pujari also asked the officials to give more emphasis on affordable housing, development of the city's peripheral areas and riverfront, and building infrastructure so that Bhubaneswar can handle a population pressure of around 20 to 25 lakh people in the future.
'The city was once famous for its unique cool breeze. However, core areas of the state capital no longer feel it because of urban development. With more emphasis on green cover, we should try and regain the lost cool breeze for our future generations,' he said.
Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, who also attended the event, said the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority were two sides of the same coin and through the philosophy of progress through partnership they could 'ensure better growth and development of the city'. 'We are here to provide the services, but the citizens need to act for the development of the city as well,' said Jena.
Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Priyadarshi Mishra said the development authority had come a long way in the past 35 years and its capacity to live up to its promises has increased the expectations of citizens.
'From heritage city to a hub for education, IT, sports infrastructure, future transport centre with state-of-the-art bus terminal and an international standard railway station, it has managed a human resource development in order to intensify urban planning,' said Mishra.
Kharavela Nagar resident Babuli Mishra, who also attended the event, admitted that the development authority had done a tremendous job in transforming the city, but he also felt that it had to continue the streak.
'We are with the administration and we need quality services,' the college student said.
During the event, the development authority also felicitated 10 meritorious students by awarding a scholarship of Rs 5,000 each for securing 90 per cent or above in the Class X board examination.
