
Bhubaneswar: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar, has shifted completely to its permanent campus.
The central administration from Toshali Bhavan was shifted to the permanent campus at Argul coinciding on the rath yatra day.
The institute will now be made fully operational from this campus.
Speaking on the occasion R.V. Raja Kumar, director of the institute, said: "It gives us a great sense of achievement that IIT Bhubaneswar could have the accomplishment of coming together from a condition of a non-habitable place to an inspiring campus within a short period of three years. It marks the beginning of an era in the history of IIT Bhubaneswar to occupy its own land finally."
He thanked the Union ministry of human resource development for its full support in granting funds to of Rs 850 crore for the phase-2 of the construction and making the institute self-sufficient.
He also thanked the state government for their all-round support in setting up the institute.
The institute now has state-of-the-art hostels, lecture hall complex, new schools, adequate staff and faculty quarters, a central research facility and a 1,500-seat auditorium.
"A careful planning exercise was undertaken in very significantly improving the existing master plan and carefully designing the individual buildings," he said.
The director sounded confident that the institute was heading in the right direction to become a world class centre in the near future.
Raja Kumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had agreed to pay a visit to the institute to dedicate the buildings to the nation.
"The visit of the Prime Minister may happen anytime soon," he said.
