Bhubaneswar, Aug.18: The transit campus of Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur (IIM-Sambalpur), will shift to the Sambalpur University campus after next month.

At present, the prestigious B-School is being run from the Silicon Institute of Technology campus at Sason on the outskirts of Sambalpur.

It has been decided that IIM-Sambalpur will now run from the Sambalpur University campus until its permanent campus at Basantpur becomes ready.

Director of IIM-Sambalpur Mahadeo Jaiswal said: "Some buildings at Sambalpur University are available from where we can run the IIM. Now, we have to sign an MoU with Sambalpur University. We will able to start operating from the university once they hand over a building to us."

However, the shifting of IIM-Sambalpur will not take place before September as the contract with the Silicon Institute of Technology is in force till then.

Vice-chancellor of Sambalpur University C.R. Tripathy said: "The state government has already written to us about allotting a building to IIM-Sambalpur.

A building will be provided to the B-School. Hostel will also be provided to its students on our university campus."

Asked about the reason behind the decision to shift the campus, Jaiswal said: "The faculty and students of the institution are not getting all the facilities as the present location is in an isolated place. Moreover, we are not able to attract the industries."

Sources said IIM-Sambalpur was facing problems in conducting classes in the evening on the Silicon Institute campus.

This problem will not be there on the Sambalpur University campus as accommodation facilities would be available there. Besides, facilities such as hospital will be available on the varsity campus.

"The government does not allow upgrading infrastructure in private buildings. We are not able to make any investment (at Silicon institute)," said Jaiswal.

Work on the boundary wall of the permanent campus at Basantpur has already begun. The campus is expected to be ready within the next three years.
