To me, a role model is someone who inspires a person to stretch beyond his or her physical, social and psychological boundaries.
In this light, Ratan Tata, noted industrialist and former chairman of the Tata group, has been my role model for quite a long time. As daughter of a Tata employee, Ratan Tata’s name has been very familiar in our household. Apart from this personal connection which I feel with him, modern India looks up to him as a responsible business tycoon.
Millions of young Indians see Mr Tata as a heady mixture of discipline, hard work, values and power. As an iconic industrialist, he transformed the Tata Group from a Rs 13,000 crore group into a Rs 1,29,994 crore conglomerate in 16 years without compromising on ethics.
My father describes Mr Tata as a deep thinker and a strategist of a superior rank who keeps his competitors miles away with his innovative thinking and flexible working style.
