Bhubnaeswar: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Thursday seized 12 quintals of ganja worth Rs 1.8 crore from the city.
The contraband was being transported from Ichchapuram in Andhra Pradesh to Bihar in a truck.
A revenue officials said the consignment was stashed in a specially designed cellar behind the driver's seat. "Other materials such as edible oil, clothes and raisins were stashed in the vacant space to avoid suspicion. We have detained the driver and helper for questioning," said a revenue official.
Sources said the agency got wind of the consignment after intercepting a call from one of three officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau here. The officers were arrested by the CBI last week while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a man after threatening to arrest him in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Revenue officials are trying to ascertain if the accused had helped such consignments to pass through the city earlier.
