Sambalpur June 17: The allegation of transfusion of hepatitis-infected blood to a patient at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of the Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla, has turned out to be untrue.
The Elisa test on the donor confirmed that the blood was not hepatitis infected.
Saying this, the superintendent of the institute B.M. Mishra said: "A rapid test was conducted on the donor on Thursday and the blood was found to be hepatitis negative. And today, the Elisa test report reconfirmed that the blood was not infected."
The allegation of transfusion of infected blood to two patients had come to fore on June 15.
Of the two patients, while one was allegedly administered HIV infected blood, it was alleged that another patient was administered hepatitis-infected blood. The allegation had created resentment across the state with people questioning the quality of health care at the hospital.
The Vimsar authorities had instituted a probe by a four-member team of doctors.
The team of doctors was asked to conduct test on the donor. Subsequently, the Elisa test on the donor, whose blood was allegedly hepatitis infected, was conducted today.
The Vimsar authorities are however, yet to conduct the test on donor, whose blood was allegedly HIV infected.
Official sources said a patient from Brajarajnagar, who had undergone a surgery at the hospital on June 12, was administered the blood after the rapid test.
Subsequent test had shown that the blood was infected with hepatitis. In the second case, a patient from Rairakhol had undergone surgery on June 10 and one of his relatives had donated blood. The authorities had conducted the rapid test and had administered the blood. Subsequently, when the Elisa test was done, it turned out to be infected with HIV.
The four-member team, which is probing into the matter, is expected to conduct the Elisa test on the donor in a day or two.
