Governor S.C. Jamir inaugurated the World Space Week celebrations at the KIIT University in Bhubaneswar on October 6. Founder of KIIT Achyuta Samanta, director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) P. Kunhikrishnan, vice-chancellor of KIIT University Hrushikesha Mohanty and deputy general manager, range operations, SDSC, Ajit Kumar Nath were present at the inaugural ceremony. “The Indian space programme has had scripted many monumental successes over the years. Satellite technology is playing a big role in our endeavour to realise the vision of a Digital India,” Jamir said. The governor also inaugurated an exhibition that showcased models of various rockets and satellites launched by SDSC.
Blood donation
A blood donation camp was organised at D.R. Nayapalli College in Bhubaneswar on October 2. Present and former students of the institute and faculty members donated blood on the occasion. The objective of the camp was to spread the idea that every drop counts.
Mental health
A seminar was recently organised to mark the World Mental Health Day at the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University. “A healthy environment at the workplace is of great importance and the employer must keep in mind the mental wellness of the employee for greater productivity,” said Surjeet Sahu, head of the department of psychiatry at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital. Rati Ranjan Sethy, associate professor in the department of psychiatry, spoke on the subject stressing on the need to develop a mental health policy. A quiz was also organised among the students.
Carp seed rearing
The Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, organised a training programme on carp seed rearing in Ganjam district on October 11.
The main objective of the programme was to create awareness about scientific carp seed rearing practices in village ponds among tribal fish farmers.
The aim of the training programme was to increase fish production and productivity, and production and supply of quality seed in the locality and adoption of better management practices.
