Cuttack, April 5: Orissa High Court today imposed restrictions on the ongoing selection process for recruitment to 156 faculty positions at Ravenshaw University. While the court allowed the varsity to continue with the recruitment, it has been restrained from issuing appointment orders.
The interim order of the court came on a public interest litigation filed by Dinesh Prasad Pattanayak, a retired reader of the university's English department, and 15 others including former Berhampur University vice-chancellor M.Q. Khan.
The petitioners challenged a revised advertisement that Ravenshaw University had issued on January 29 inviting applications for 20 professors, 37 readers and 99 lecturers.
The PIL sought quashing of the entire recruitment process on the basis of the revised advertisement alleging "illegalities and irregularities" and sought recruitment being done under the supervision of a committee constituted by the court.
Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B.R. Sarangi today issued a notice to the vice-chancellor of Ravenshaw, the secretary of the higher education and the UGC to file their response on the matter.
