Cuttack: Authorities of the Ravenshaw University here have decided to adopt a wait-and-watch policy before taking action against the woman associate professor who made false allegations of sexual harassment against her male counterpart in the varsity's Hindi department.
The woman associate professor had hit the headlines in November when she levelled allegations of sexual harassment against an assistant professor of the department.
According to her complaint, the alleged incident had occurred at the department on November 13. The varsity authorities had also received a counter complaint. The university had forwarded her complaint for a probe to its Gender Sensitisation Committee against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH).
The committee submitted its report on November 28, concluding that the allegations of the woman associate professor were false. However, the varsity is yet to take any action against her since then.
Newly appointed vice-chancellor Ishan Patro said no action had been taken as the woman associated professor had also lodged a complaint before the police. The cops had also conducted a probe into her allegations.
The associate professor had lodged a formal complaint against the assistant professor at Mahila police station on November 16. She had alleged that the assistant professor had, on November 13, made indecent advances towards her and sexually harassed her. When she turned down his advances, he got agitated and almost strangled her. However, she had managed to escape and save her life, the associate professor had claimed in her complaint to the cops.
The cops had registered a cases under Sections 354 A (sexual harassment) and 307 (attempt to murder).
The police said they had found no prima facie case against the assistant professor during their investigation and closed the case as a result.
"But we will wait till the final report is submitted and the case is declared closed by the court," the vice-chancellor said.
The university, however, had since initiated disciplinary proceedings against the woman professor after the GSCASH found that she had misbehaved with the assistant professor.
As part of the disciplinary proceedings, the varsity authorities have served a charge sheet on her and have begun disciplinary proceedings, official sources said.
