Bhubaneswar, Aug. 8: Students of Maharshi College of Natural Law are all set to enthral the audience at Independence Day celebrations here with various daredevil stunts.

As many as 50 students of the college will perform various stunts, including pyramid, parallel bar, fire ring jumping, jump on bike and many more, on their two-wheelers.

The special attraction this year will be participation of the girl students. “Earlier, boys of the college were taking part in formation riding and have won a lot of appreciation as well. This year, a group of girl students came forward and showed their interest for the same. After meticulous training, they performed on Republic Day and won a lot of appreciation,” said chief trainer for the students Mihir Ranjan Saran.

More girls have now been included in the team and are being trained for the Independence Day performance, he said. With a very few days left for the D-day, the students are rigorously practising the acts namely lotus, sukhoi, fighter jet and diamond.

“Five to seven bikers on three to four bikes will showcase the daredevil stunts,” said leader of the group Chinmay Bhuiyan.

“The acts are done on running bikes, and for safety reasons, we use helmets and knee guards,” said Bhuiyan. The team called Maharshi Daredevils now has 75 boys and 25 girls.

“It’s a great feeling when people appreciate us after watching our performance. Independence Day parade is a big occasion, and we are lucky to get a chance for taking part in it. We hope that we would be able to present the stunts perfectly,” said Dhaneswar Barik, a student.

The act involves perfect balance, endurance, courage and patience.

During practice, utmost care is given to avoid risk, Saran said, adding that it would be great had the team manages got some sponsors, who could provide some financial support to the groups. About Rs 3,000 is being spent on fuel every day, said another student.
