| One of the most popular female DJs of the country, Smita, found the Bhubaneswar party crowd amazing in her first trip to the city. She played her debut album Beatz Volume 1, an eclectic mix of pure club sounds and Bollywood party songs from Pungi Bajake to Daru Desi and many Punjabi numbers |
One-on-one with Dj Smita: Hailing from a family of musicians and classical singers, Smita, who is well-trained in classical music, took to spinning the disc three years ago. “I always wanted to create my own music,” said Smita. She has already performed in all major Indian cities and in Dubai, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Bahrain. “I keep moving everyday for parties and events. Its hectic but I’m totally loving it,” chirped the young DJ. A pet of DJ NYK, Smita has performed for DJ Aqueel’s house too. “Right now I’m working on my own albums and productions. Female DJs are not taken much seriously, but with the amazing response to my music everywhere I am now inching closer to my dream of mixing for Bollywood,” she said. As a tip for aspiring female DJs, keeping the passion for mixing and producing music on a high always is the key, said the young talent.
