Green nod

Bhubaneswar: A state green panel has given first-stage clearance to Odisha Integrated Power Ltd for 
diverting 17.02 hectares of revenue forest land to set up a 4,000-MW ultra mega power project in Sundargarh district in Odisha at a cost of Rs 29,000 crore. 

According to the proposal, the project requires altogether 1,302.36 hectares.

Woman killed

Dhenkanal: A woman was killed by an elephant at Konlaki village in Dhenkanal on Thursday. The jumbo had stormed into the village in Kamakhyanagar forest range and attacked the woman when she was coming out of her house.

Farmer suicide

Khurda: A farmer committed suicide over loan burden at Paika Tigiria village in Khurda district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Sitakanta Tripathy. He took the extreme step by consuming poison and hanging himself inside a shop. 

Dengue

Cuttack: The spurt in number of dengue cases has now forced the authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital to increase beds at the dengue ward to 215 to accommodate more patients. The demand for platelets has also shot up in the last two weeks.

Dress code

Bhubaneswar: District collector of Koraput V. Jay kumar has asked government officers and employees and general public in the district to visit his office only in common sober dress. “If you have work at the Koraput collectorate and have taken appointment with the collector, please come in common dress. Jeans and T-shirts are not allowed,” a notice, fixed on a board, reads.   

Textbooks

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday directed officials to take initiatives to provide free textbooks 
to students in government schools from beginning of the next academic year.
