Bhubaneswar, April 30: The state government has decided to "go slow" on the Taradatt-led task force's action-taken report on the misuse of discretionary quota of the government for allotment of land and houses.

The housing and urban development department has asked the vice-chairman of Bhubaneswar Development Authority, Cuttack Development Authority and Odisha State Housing Board not to hand over any original files related to the matter to the state vigilance at this moment.

The letter was issued by the housing and urban development department seven days after state government shifted the task force committee's head and additional chief secretary, revenue, Taradatt, on April 20.

Housing director Ajit Kumar Mishra, in his letter, said: "Since the modalities for implementation of the task force report have not been finalised, you are requested to wait till the same is finalised."

The state government constituted the committee under Taradatt last July following the accountant-general (AG)'s report on misuse of discretionary quota. The committe has found that 6,001 plots have been distributed fraudulently since 1995 from Bhubaneswar Development Authority, Cuttack Development Authority and Odisha State Housing Board.

Those who got multiple plots and houses included IAS officers, IPS officers, journalists and even tourism and culture minister Ashok Panda.

The state government had assured that action would be taken against the guilty.

Sources said since a number of influential persons have befitted under the discretionary quota, there is tremendous pressure on the government not to go ahead in executing the report.
