Bhubaneswar, July 31: Governor M.C. Bhandare, who is also the chancellor of all the state’s universities, has set a deadline of three months for varsities to compile a detailed information chart. The chart is supposed to figure research work completed and taken up by every professor, and publication of books and research papers in national and international journals.

Speaking at the annual conference of university vice-chancellors, governor Bhandare also focused on filling up of vacant teaching and non-teaching posts, infrastructure development, utilisation of funds, timely conduct of examination and publication of results, and Gyanalok project.

“The Gyanalok programme has to be intensified in tribal districts so that tribal boys and girls in Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Koraput and Rayagada benefit from it,” he said. Bhandare’s brainchild, Gyanalok is a programme which aims at eradicating illiteracy among tribal communities and preventing dropout of tribal girls. The vice-chancellor of Utkal University is its nodal officer.

The vice-chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) said a 14-feature security system would be introduced to detect fake certificates. Besides the vice-chancellors, chief secretary B.K. Patnaik, finance minister Prafulla Ghadei, culture minister Prafulla Samal, higher education minister Badri Narayan Patra and other senior government officers were present at the conference.
