Government mulls stricter law to curb test malpractice

The state government is considering amendments to the Odisha Conduct of Examinations (OCoE) Act, 1988, following an increase in cases of malpractice during various examinations.

The changes are being mulled in form of stricter punishments for students, especially those helping the examinees, including teachers, staff members and guardians. According to the suggestions, anyone who is found guilty of adopting unfair means during the tests shall be punished with imprisonment of a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years. There will be cash fine up to Rs 1 lakh.

Punishment is also being envisaged for centre superintendents and head of the institutions for abetting the crime. The Telegraph spoke to a section of teachers, students, parents and educators to know their opinion
