Cuttack: A local court here sent four persons, who were arrested by police on Thursday while planning to rob a filling station, have been sent to jail.
The police produced them before the magistrate's court on Friday after registering cases against them for assembling and preparing to rob the filling station at Choudwar.
The cops identified the arrested accused as Bimal Kumar Behera, 32, of Jagatpur; Sushanta Pradhan, 23, of Shankarpur Majhi Sahi; Prakash Kumar Nayak, 19, of Brahmansahi and Sudanm Nayak, 26, of Mangarajpur Majhi Sahi. Another accused managed to give the police the slip during the raid at the filling station.
The police also seized a country-made revolver with three live rounds, two types of daggers, two mobile phones and a motorcycle from the quartet.
Sub-inspector Ranjit Kumar Sethi and other officers from Choudwar police station were on patrol when they received information about heavily armed criminals assembling at Gopabandhupadia in OTM Colony on Thursday night.
"Acting on the tip-off, Sethi and his team raided the place and nabbed four persons, while another managed to escape," deputy commissioner of police, Cuttack, Akhileswar Singh said.
"During interrogation, the accused persons disclosed that they were assembled there to rob the Kargil filling station," Singh said.
As the accused persons had gathered at the place and were armed with firearms and ammunition without any licence or authority, the cops arrested them and produced them in court.
