Bhubaneswar: A number of movies made by filmmakers from the state have been selected to be screened at various international and national film festivals.

Sabas Biju, a film on child rights, which was selected last year for screening at the National Children's festival, Rajastan, has been selected for the 20th International Children's Film Festival India (ICFFI) that will be organised in Hyderabad from November 8 to 14 this year.

"Highly-acclaimed films are selected for screening at the ICFFI. One of the most appreciated aspects of the festival is the interaction between the film-makers and the audience after the screenings and I am looking forward to it," said the writer and director of Sabas Biju, Santosh Panda.

The film features children from slums and government-run schools who had never been exposed to filmmaking earlier. Snehal Sujal Mohanty and Subhangi Panda play the lead roles in the film along with other kids.

This apart, Khyanikaa-The Lost Idea by Amartya Bhattacharyya has been selected for screening for Cardiff International Film Festival this month. This will be the second international festival screening of the film after its world premiere at Hidden Gems Film Festival in Calgary, Canada.

The film is a fantasy-driven tale of two men, a poet and a painter, claiming possession of the same idea in a village portrayed as a wonderland.

"Idea is personified as a beautiful young woman free of bondages. Both the men try to justify their claim over their idea through their forms of art," said Amartya.

Produced under the banner of Swastik Arthouse, the film features Amrita Chowdhury as Idea, Susant Misra and Swastik Choudhury as the aspiring painter and poet, respectively.

Another Hindi short film by Biswanath Rath, The Invincible Code, got selected for screening at Geo Film Festival and Expo Cinema to be held at Padova in Italy in November. Themed on women empowerment, the film was made in 2014 in 101 hours as part of a short film contest. It went on to receive six international awards.
