Girls steal varsity show

Girls have once again outshone the boys in the performance of graduation examinations of Fakir Mohan University, under which there are 74 colleges in Balasore and Bhadrak districts.

Balasore: Girls have once again outshone the boys in the performance of graduation examinations of Fakir Mohan University, under which there are 74 colleges in Balasore and Bhadrak districts.

Girls have stolen the show in most of the subjects in the three main streams - arts, science and commerce. They have emerged as toppers in as many as in 12 subjects.

In arts stream, girls have topped in nine subjects out of 12 and in science stream they have topped in three subjects out of six.

Subhalaxmi Prusti, the topper in mathematics, has also been adjudged the best graduate of the university. She is a student of U.N. College at Soro .

The results of the university were published on Tuesday and the overall pass percentage is about 85 per cent, said university vice-chancellor Madhumita Das.

"Out of 16,117 students appeared for the exams, 13,492 have cleared the exams. The pass percentage in arts is about 87, while the pass percentages in science and commerce are about 83 and 80 respectively," said Das.

"The result was published in a record time this year. Earlier, the results used to be published in end of May or beginning of June. But this year, we published the results on May 1. Since many of these graduates would be applying for admissions to other universities and colleges across the country, the early publication of the results would help them a lot," she said .

The other two toppers in arts and commerce stream are psychology student at Charampa College, Bhadrak, Manoj Kumar Bal and accountancy student at Khaira college, Khaira, Madhusudan Das, said university registrar Amar Singh Soren.
