Bhubaneswar, April 24: Girls outshone boys once again in Utkal University's Plus Three examinations, grabbing first positions in most of the subjects under the three streams.
Utkal University today announced Plus Three results for its affiliated colleges. Out of 18 subjects in arts, girls topped in 15 subjects, including English, economics, education, Hindi, history, home science, Odia, political science, anthropology, geography, library science, philosophy, psychology, Sanskrit and sociology. Boys topped in public administration, Urdu and law.
Similarly, in nine subjects under the science stream, girls topped in biotechnology, botany, computer science, geology, physics and zoology. Another girl topped in finance in the commerce stream. Around 50,332 students had appeared for the Plus Three examination in February. There are 269 Plus Three colleges affiliated to Utkal University.
In science, the pass percentage stood at 91, while the figure stood at 90 per cent in arts. The pass percentage in commerce was 85.
A biotechnology student has topped the examination overall. Sanjana Sinha of MITS School of Biotechnology scored 84.25 per cent to top the overall list.
Sudheshnna Subhramayee of Kamala Nehru Women's College topped in the arts stream with 81.13 per cent (anthropology honours) and Nikhil Bhusan of SAI International College of Commerce and Economics topped the commerce stream with 75.2 per cent (accounting honours).
"The trend of girls faring better than boys has existed in the varsity for some time. It is notable that colleges in rural areas have also fared well," said vice-chancellor Ashok Das.<>In a related development, the varsity has begun its admission schedule for postgraduate, MPhil and PhD courses. The application process, which has gone fully online, began on April 1. The application schedule is different for courses and applicants will be able to access details from the website.
