Bhubaneswar, April 27: Girl students have excelled in all the three streams of arts, science and commerce in the Plus III examinations of Utkal University, the result for which were announced today.
In all 85 per cent of the examinees have cleared the examination. Girls topped in all the eight departments in arts, while they bagged five top positions among the nine that were up for grabs in the science stream. Commerce department was no different with girls at the top.
Commending them on their success, vice-chancellor of the varsity Ashok Das said: "The girl students, like in the previous years have done well."
A total of 4,532 students took examination in the commerce stream and 90 per cent have cleared it. In science, 85 per cent of the 6,971 students had passed. In arts there were 28,966 examinees and 87 per cent have emerged successful.
There are 350 degree colleges affiliated to the varsity.
JEE result
Results of the Joint Entrance Examination Mains conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education were announced today.
About 50,000 students had taken the test from Odisha. While the results were uploaded at 2pm today, at few places, students complained of technical glitches in accessing the website. However, the problem was sorted out by 4pm.
"Students can see their results on the website jeemain.nic.in," said CBSE regional officer A.S. Verma adding that the first 1.5 lakh candidates, who have cleared the examinations, will be eligible for JEE Advanced. These candidates can register online between May 2 and 7.
Cut-off score for appearing in JEE (Advanced) - 2015 for the general category is 105 (out of 360). For OBC, SC and ST, the cut-off marks are 70, 50 and 44, respectively. The cut-off marks for general category was 115 in 2014.
The JEE Advanced will be held on May 24.
"The exact number of students from Odisha who have qualified for the JEE Advanced have not been compiled yet. Students were today issued the scorecards. The all-India ranks are likely to be published on July 7 after Class-XII results are out. Candidates eligible for JEE Advanced may register online at http://jeeadv.nic.in," said Verma.

Cabinet meet
The state cabinet will meet tomorrow to discus 15 proposals, including making the technical education minister as the pro-chancellor of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology.
The tenure of the vice-chancellor will be made three years instead of five years. Besides, structural changes will be made in the varsity.
The cabinet will also discuss about creation of a separate department for the physically challenged and formulation of a specific rule for laying underground telephone cables. It will discuss proposals for allotment of land for government institutes.
