Bhubaneswar: Orkel Police seized 89 kilogram of ganja from a vehicle at Khadikajodi Nala near Balimela in Malkangiri district on Wednesday. However, no one was arrested.

Sub-inspector Manas Ranjan Swain was on patrol duty at Balimela Chhak in the evening when he noticed an SUV coming in high speed from Dyke-III Road.

Swain and his team intercepted the car and seized five packets of ganja from it.

However, taking advantage of darkness, the driver fled in the jungle.The market value of the ganja is estimated at more than Rs 5 lakh.

The car - of the registration number OR-10E-9018 - has been seized. Orkel police station has lodged a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and an investigation is on.

Women killed

A woman died after she was run over by a train on Wednesday near Banagara in Balasore district. The deceased is yet to be identified
