Bhubaneswar: Police seized 262kg ganja in two separate incidents on Tuesday night.
The cops also seized a car worth Rs 20 lakh used to transport the contraband.
The police said they seized 152kg ganja from the vehicle and arrested the driver, Suryakant Mansingh.
"The owner of the vehicle, Bulu Patniak, is a notorious peddler and he managed to escape. The driver said the ganja was being transported to Barang," said Khandagiri police station inspector-in-charge Himanshu Bhusan Swain.
In the second case, the cops recovered 110kg ganja from S.K. Isak, 33, from Baramunda bus terminal. "Isak procured the contraband from Sambalupr district and planned to hire a car to transport it further," said a police officer.
Ganja traders have been trying various methods to hoodwink the cops and excise sleuths. While they have been effectively using public vehicles to transport the ganja, high-end cars are also being used.
"Patnaik has been in the trade for 20 years and has earned lakhs. He bought the luxury vehicle to transport the contraband to avoid raising the suspicion of police," said a police officer.
