Bhubaneswar, Oct. 25: Sishumahotsav, the annual children’s festival organised by the school and mass education department, will be a lot more fun this year.
Instead of kiosks with confusing models and gigantic banners, the event has in store several exciting activities to keep children engaged this year. Workshops to train students in puppetry, origami and balloon art have been lined up for the three-day festival that starts on November 12.
Sand artist Sudarshan Das will conduct a workshop on sand art at this year’s Sishumahotsav. Workshops such as “Mathematics is Fun” and “Science in Everyday Life”, aimed at presenting basic scientific concepts in a simple and enjoyable manner to school students, will also be conducted at the event.
Interactive models pertaining to school-level mathematics curriculum will be put up too. Besides screening of children’s films, there will be dance, theatre, magic shows and Surabhi-2011, an exhibition gallery to display selected paintings, art, crafts and toys of students from different schools across the state.
At the event, aids and appliances will also be distributed to children with special needs.
The inauguration ceremony would start with a marathon cycle rally with about 600 students cycling from Forest Park to Unit-IX Boys’ High School in the capital, the venue for the event, said an official of the school and mass education department.
People from organisations such as Unicef, Swabhimaan and Bakul Foundation will be the resource persons for the workshops. To effectively organise the event, the department has decided to put up display boards with timetables for activities at the venue.
Leaflets indicating allotment of groups and time of participation will also be distributed to students at the time of registration.
“At this year’s event, participating students and guide teachers will also be issued identity cards,” said the official.
Students from primary and secondary schools from across 30 districts of the state are expected to participate in the Sishumahotsav.
