Balasore, March 25: Police have arrested a man who was allegedly involved in a sand scam worth Rs 10 crore and had been absconding for nearly seven years.
The accused, identified as Biswas Mohapatra, 35, of Balasore, was nabbed yesterday. He, along with five others, have been facing charges of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy. The main accused, Susant Dhal Bajrapat of Jajpur district, continues to be at large. Mohapatra has been forwarded to court. It was alleged that Dhal had opened a share trading centre in the name of Digital Security in 2003 in Balasore town near Station Square. Even policemen and members of the judiciary had invested with the company. The group had managed to raise over Rs 10 crore.
Inspector in charge of Sahadevkhunta police station Manoj Rout said: “Mohapatra was one of the directors of the share trading centre and has been arrested.”
