Jajpur, March 14: Jenapur police today detained four persons in connection with the murder of 38-year-old railway sub-contractor Subash Swain.

Swain’s body was found near a company, which is engaged in construction work of railway line in the area, yesterday.

Irate mob torched the company’s site office and six vehicles, including two earth-digging machines, when the news of the contractor’s death spread.

The premises of the construction company’s office wore a deserted look today as all workers and officials started to flee from the site following the chaos. Railway line construction work has also been stopped following yesterday’s incident.

According to the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father with local police, Subash Swain was supplying stone chips, sand, iron rods and other materials to the constructing agency for the last couples of months. He had, however, stopped supply to the agency because of non-payment of dues.

He was called by the construction agency to sort out the issue and went there at Jenapur on Saturday evening. However, he did not return home in the night and his body was found near the agency’s office yesterday.

“My son went to the construction company’s office on Saturday evening. He did not return home. We found him dead near the company’s office next day. I believe my son was killed,” said Purosattam Swain, father of the deceased.

“We are yet to make any arrest. But we have detained four persons and are interrogating them. Nothing can be said at this moment,” said investigating officer Sriharsha Mishra.

“We have sent the body for post-mortem today and are waiting for the report to arrive. We are yet to come to any conclusion,” he added.

Senior police officers visited the spot to take stock of the situation. One platoon of armed police force was deployed to maintain peace and order in the area.
