Bhubaneswar, Aug. 26: The house of a retired district judge in Ganga Nagar was burgled early this morning and the burglars decamped with valuables worth around Rs 1.5 lakh including gold ornaments.

In two other incidents today, goons robbed a businessman and a woman at two different areas in the city.

The burglars entered the rented house of retired judge Ashok Kumar Senapati by breaking open a window while Senapati and his son were asleep around 2am. The goons found a locker key from an almirah and stole 30 grams of gold ornaments and cash of worth around Rs 50,000.

It was only in the morning that Senapati found out that his house had been burgled. He promptly informed Airfield police and cops immediately visited the spot. Later, a forensic team and a dog squad searched the spot for evidence. A senior police officer of Airfield police station said they were interrogating some known criminals in the area. “We are conducting raids at several places in an attempt to arrest the criminals,” said the officer.

This afternoon, a woman who identified herself as the wife of a police officer, was allegedly duped and robbed near Ramadevi College. She was returning home after withdrawing gold ornaments worth Rs 1.50 lakh from the locker of a private bank and cash worth Rs 50,000 when the incident occurred. She had kept the valuables in a purse and placed it inside her car. While she was driving by the college, some persons allegedly told her she had dropped some currency notes. After she stopped the car, collected the notes and returned to the vehicle, she found her bag was missing. She later lodged a complaint with Saheed Nagar police.

In another incident, two criminals allegedly robbed a businessman in front of his shop at Rajamhal Square late this evening while he was coming out of the shop. The motorcycle-borne goons snatched cash worth Rs 30,000 that he was carrying in a handbag. By the time the businessman shouted for help, the goons had managed to flee. He later lodged a complaint with the Capital Police station.

Police said the criminals would be caught soon.
