Polythene peril
Young artisans of Chitrasala Institute at Pokhariput launched a plastic-free Odisha campaign on Tuesday under the guidance of social worker Sushant Sahu,. The children were taught about ecological damages due to excessive use of plastic in daily life. They were suggested to advise others not to use polythene carry bags and other polythene products. They took an oath not to use polythene packets for the upcoming Ganesh Puja. Chitrasala founder Anasuya Sahu said they would use eco-friendly materials to make Ganesh idols that are easily dissolved in soil. Social worker Priyabrata Panda coordinated the programme
Tales of success
From a tiny school at a nondescript village of Balasingha in Sambalpur to the prestigious National Institute of Science Education and Research (Niser) and finally to the University of Göttingen as a research associate, Sesha Kisan has proved that the path to success lies in one's own hand. Narrating his own tale, the young scholar shared the four steps of success with the students and teachers of SAI International School in Bhubaneswar on Teachers' Day on Wednesday.
Tradition and talent
Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium (BJEM) School celebrated Teachers' Day with a beautiful mix of tradition and talent. Former vice-chancellor of Utkal University Gokulananda Das graced the occasion as the chief guest. He was felicitated with Guru Samman. Students rendered heart-touching speeches highlighting the importance of teachers in the life of an individual and also in the society. A dance drama was enacted on the occasion showing the sacrifice of a teacher. A bhajan antakshari was also organised.
Floral tributes
Students and staff of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur offered floral tributes to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Mother Teresa on Teachers' Day and Mother Teresa Day on the school premises on Wednesday. The two great personalities were remembered amidst series of activities such as skit show, musical renditions, life sketching and chorus singing.
Teachers honoured
Confederation of Odisha Public Schools recently felicitated teachers from across the state on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. Select teachers from various schools across the state were awarded by food supplies and consumer welfare minister Surya Narayan Patro.
Clean rally
Students of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, carried out a Swacchata Rally in Bhubaneswar on Monday. During the rally, students carried placards with messages of cleanliness and hygiene to create awareness among the public. In another development, Kalinga Nagar DAV Public School in Bhubaneswar began the Swachhata Pakhawada Mission on Saturday. School principal Bipin Kumar Sahoo administered a swachh sapath (pledge for cleanliness) to all the students, teachers and staff. Sum Hospital dietician Madhusmita Tripathy delivered a talk on personal hygiene on the occasion. Other programmes to promote cleanliness were also held.
Karate kids
The Japan Karate Shotokai training seminar concluded at the Sreekrishna International School in Bhuban-eswar in which 21 karatekas took part. Japan Karate Shotokai India vice-president Soumya Ranjan Das guided the programme and Toffan Bisoi and Gyana Ranjan Nanda conducted the seminar. Raghudipan Sarangi, Hemant Kumar, Pratyush Purussottam, Sanvi Biswal, Priyansu Bal, Sumansu Sahu, Yash Sagar, Omm Rath, Soumya and Heena Patel got the orange belt and Govind Panthei, Janavi Mohanty, Badri Narayan and Amrita Priyadarshini got the green belt.
