Bhubaneswar, July 20: Foodies had a gala time relishing an assortment of sumptuous snacks to devour in the rainy season at a two-day food festival.

Organised by a city-based radio station, the second season of Thappa Food Fest, held at BMC Bhawani Mall concluded this evening.

The radio station had earlier organised a competition on basis of audience votes. Foodies were asked about their favourite eatery in various categories.

The six winners were Paris Bakery (bakery), Shiraz (biryani), Shree Cuttack Sweet Stall (sweets), Gupta Sweets and Chats (chaats), Master Canteen (kebabs) and Truptee South Indian Restaurant (south Indian cuisine).

The winners had set up their kiosks selling their much-loved dishes on the premises of the mall.

Paris Bakery had brought its wide range of buns, breads, sandwiches, pastries and beverages. Shiraz and Master Canteen became the hot spot for the non-vegetarians, as they both offered delectable chicken, mutton and fish items.

Truptee made sure those who came looking for dosa, uttapam, sambar, vada and idli were not disappointed.

The kiosk of Gupta Sweets and Chats saw a long queue of youngsters craving to have the spicy chaats and gupchups.

“It was wonderful opportunity for us to create a rapport with the customers. We are new in the city and this food festival has given us the chance to inform so many foodies about our products and services,” said Vibhas of Paris Bakery.

The gastronomes found the festival easy on the pocket as all the outlets were seen offering discounted rates.

“Rain certainly acts as a catalyst for foodies like me. One may get tired of having tea, samosas and pakodas. Thankfully, this festival has offered many palatable snacks. I came here for a quick bite, but I could not resist and ate more than I planned to,” said Satya Pradhan, a businessman.

The organisers were happy with the footfall. “We plan the festival on weekends so that more people can enjoy it. Considering it has been raining relentlessly, we are happy that hundreds turned up on Saturday and Sunday,” said Manash Pattnayak, station head of the radio channel.
