Berhampur: Three members of a family - mother, daughter and son - in Rambha are suspected to have died from food poisoning. They had consumed roti and cauliflower curry cooked at home.

The deceased are Kumari Pradhan, daughter Kamalini Pradhan, 23, and son Sowmya Ranjan Pradhan, 25, an engineering student, of Pantha Nivas Sahi. Kamalini was to be married in January.

Kumari's husband Banambar, a BSNL employee, who had the same meal, has survived, police said.

"We collected the food samples on Thursday and sent them to the regional laboratory for tests," said Namita Naik, inspector in charge of Rambha police station.

Banambar said he had bought the vegetables from Rambha College Square on Tuesday. "We had dinner around 9pm. My daughter started vomiting at 2am and I approached a local pharmacist who administered saline to her. A few hours later, my son and wife also started vomiting. I took them to Chatrapur District Headquarter Hospital where my daughter died at 11am on Wednesday," he said.

"I shifted my wife and son to MKCG Hospital after that. My son died there and doctors advised me to shift my wife to SCB in Cuttack. I admitted my wife to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. She died on Thursday," said Banambar.
