Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: Mayurbhanj district in north Odisha, which suffered extensive damage because of the floods, has submitted a Rs 232 crore demand for taking up rehabilitation.
The district plans to have at least 20 flood shelters in its six major flood-prone blocks.
The district experienced more than 300mm rain at two places after Phailin crossed the Odisha coast near Gopalpur on the night of October 12.
The two major tributaries of Budhabalanga, Katra and Palpala, brought in an unmanageable amount of water into the Budhabalanga basin affecting nearby blocks including Udala, Betanati, Badashi and Samakhunta.
Incessant rains also affected areas in Bangiriposi, Kuliana and Rasgobindpur. The second low-pressure system caused nearly 217mm average rainfall again on October 25 causing another flood that hit 52,223 families.
