Sambalpur, Sept. 28: Bargarh police have arrested five persons of a family, including three women, in connection with robbery at the Bank of Baroda, Bargarh branch, that took place on September 19.
Cash worth Rs 39.8 lakh and 2,447.31 grams of gold were stolen from the bank.
The accused, who have been arrested in connection with the robbery case, have been identified as Sushanta Bagarty, Sushanta's younger brother, Nrupa Bagarty, younger sister, Banita Bagarty and Sushanta's mother Bishu Bagarty of Mastertikra besides Sushanta's elder sister, Mamata Mahanand.
"All the five accused persons belong to one family. While two accused persons were involved in the loot of cash and jewellery from the bank, the three women accused had helped dispose the stolen cash and gold ornaments," said deputy inspector general of police, Northern Range, Prateek Mohanty.
Sushanta Bagarty was also involved in an attempted theft at a water-packaging factory located near the Bank of Baroda, Bargarh branch. The cops suspected Sushanta's involvement in the recent robbery after they found out They had stashed the stolen cash and jewellery in the rented house of their elder sister, Mamata Mahanand, at Padhanpali on the outskirts of Bargarh town, with the help of their younger sister, Banita and mother, Bishu.
Besides a mobile phone and two-wheelers "The investigation is on to seize the remaining stolen cash of about Rs 3.91 lakh and gold of about 60 grams," said a police source.
