
Berhampur: Police have arrested five persons for a loot that occurred at the house of Sisir Padhi, former president of the Ganjam Bar Association, at Minakshi Nagar here on October 27.
The arrested persons are Rakesh Behera alias Pakei, 22, of Panigrahipentha in Berhampur, Saroj Behera alias Bulu, 29, of Kumbhara Sahi in Lathi situated on the outskirt of Berhampur, Sukanta Maharana, 40, of Bijipur Bada Sahi, Rintu Mohanty alias Alu, 38, and G. Suresh Kumar Rao, 33, both from Tulasi Nagar 5th Lane in Berhampur, police said.
"We have arrested five persons. All of them have criminal antecedents. They had stolen an amount of Rs 8 lakh in cash and gold ornaments from Padhi's house. We have recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash from them," Gosaninuagaon police station inspector-in-charge Kulamani Sethi said on Saturday.
"Ten persons were involved in the incident. We have arrested five, and the rest are still on the run," Sethi said, adding that the police had formed three teams to nab these dacoits.
Wearing masks, the dacoits had broken into Padhi's house at 4pm when he was not at home. They brandished guns and sharp weapons at his wife and decamped with the valuables. Padhy's wife was injured.
Acting on the tip-off, additional police superintendent Trinath Patel, inspector Sethi and other police officials rushed to the spot and started investigation.
Advocate Sisir Padhi has expressed his satisfaction with the police investigation.
"I am satisfied with the police investigation and their sincerity in solving the case. Though the mastermind of the loot is yet to be arrested, I think the police would shortly nab the other culprits," said Padhi. "Solving this case and arresting the culprits was a challenge for Berhampur police and they have performed it efficiently. I have complete faith on the police."
