Cuttack, Aug. 4: Patients in the special cabin ward of the plastic surgery department of SCB Medical College and Hospital had a narrow escape today as a fire broke out in a cabin where at least 16 of them were undergoing treatment.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and patients were shifted to another ward.

“All the patients are safe and work has begun on restoring power supply. The ward is now functional again. The patients will be brought back to their cabins by tonight,” said head of SCB plastic surgery department Arun Choudhary.

The fire was allegedly caused by short-circuit in an air-conditioner.
